Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's divorce from her family members, she was brought to maturity by her mother, godparents and grandmother. In her early years, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder, suffering anxiety related to associations with words. Ford began to become fascinated by acting during her teens, she joined the National Youth Theatre. She was admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she wasn't a good fit. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama which she was eventually able to get a place on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall - who later appeared as Pete Tyler in Doctor Who was among Ford's classmates. Ford was able to graduate in 1993, but she already made a TV appearance in the 1992 episode Surgical Spirit. She adopted the name Catherine Tate. Tate was seen in television programs like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly as well as London's Burning in the Nineties. Her regular work in theatre led her to join the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate started to get noticed due to her stand-up comedy in 1996.
